I ended up putting Kinetic Pro in the basement where I can ride fast and loud (without warring too much about noise), while Schwinn 240 went into my living room in front of my TV... OK, now, about Kinetic. This thing was designed for a serious workout. You just CAN NOT resist a temptation to accelerate at some point switching to the higher gear and getting the heart pumping your blood "nicely". I bought a special tire (Ultra Sport Hometrainer by Continental - orange color) recommended by a salesman in the local bike store. He was right: now the ride became VERY quite and the tire is not getting hot. NOTE: I had to adjust the tire on the wheel in the bike store (I did not have a special tool to do it by myself). The tire for some reasons was not evenly placed around the wheel: one side was slightly higher then another. Because of that my trainer vibrated like there was an earth quake. The adjustment took less then 5 min. My advise to you is (if you buy this tire in the bike store) bring your rear wheel and ask them to put in on right in the store.

I purchased this item as part of a gold box promotion. The bike is nearly fully assembled. It took about half an hour to get it assembled. The instructions for both assembly and operation are not very good. There is an addendum (at least in mine) packed in the instruction book. It is very unclear. What I painfully discovered is that the lever that tightens the seat position needs to be adjusted before mounting the seat. If you don't get it in exactly the right place, the seat has to be removed before you can lock the seat into position.

In terms of operation, the bike has a few issues. The center column is impossible to keep tight so the console wobbles. The pulse monitoring sensors almost never work. The eddy current resistence works very well. The seat and the bike itself are rugged (and heavy -- 120 lbs 60 kg). Parts do tend to loosen and the connections between them are not well thought out.

For the money (when it was on sale), this exercise bike is a good deal. The console display is very similar to the ones I have seen in gyms. The bike has some good pre-programmed exercise routines.

Like many others who have posted, I performed due diligence before I bought. I eventually purchased from Dick's Sporting Goods since they sold me the treadmill for $1400 with free delivery to my upstairs rec room 12 steps. They charged $74 for assembly which I took them up on. Glad I did, but I am sure I could have done it myself without major issues. The guys told me that they do hear about people who pinch the wires as they secure the handle covers. The trick they showed me is to ensure that the wires are routed around little metal posts in the handle to prevent the pinching before putting the handle covers on. For those reading this who are thinking about buying the machine, click on [...] to get an idea of the assembly steps if you are unsure about doing it yourself. Delivery folks were friendly, efficient, and prompt to the hour.

A word to the wise that I have not seen on a previous posting. While the treadmill may work on the average 15 amp circuit with other things like lights, clocks, TV's, DVD's etc on the same circuit, breakers may trip. The manual is explicit about the need for a DEDICATED (they use the adjective nominal) 15-amp circuit (directly to the panel and not shared with other things on the circuit). I did this with a buddy of mine and it took me 4 hrs to do. Called an electrical contractor for a bid and he bid $515 for 4 hours of work (Portland, OR market). So, I was lucky to have an experienced friend guide me through the circuit install. Everything works just fine. The delivery guys also told me that the most call-backs they get are about folks who trip breakers and think the machine is defective. Without fail these are folks who have connected the machines to shared circuits and don't have enough juice to support the current demands of the motor. So, like building computers, you must ensure that you have adequate and appropriate power. I myself installed a 20 amp circuit since the Sole tech support guy agreed that that would be better. The cost between a 20 and 15 amp breaker is usually less than $5, but you must use 12 ga Romex wire, not 14 as you would with a 15 amp breaker.If you are uncertain about code requirements or your handiness at home repairs, get a licensed electrician to do the work.

I love this treadmill. It is sturdy, quiet and a true joy to use at home. I am using this as part of a stage 3 cardiac rehab program. Stage 3 cardiac rehab is generally on your own after you finish a monitored rehab program in a hospital, clinic, or YMCA/YWCA. If you were to join a commercial gym (precious few provide stage 3 cardiac rehab with monitoring by nurses, physical therapists, or fitness technology/exercise physiology -educated trainers) it would cost at least $120 per month. My ROI on the fees alone will pay for the treadmill in 12 months, plus however longer use I get beyond the first year. Plus, I get to use the treadmill without all the other things that come with sharing the gym environment. Also, in this era of H1N1 and other emerging infections, the possibility of being exposed to an infectious disease in the gym is now eliminated for me. I am not saying that gyms are breeding grounds for epidemics, but the responsible gym managers do warn patrons that personal hygiene IS the patron's responsibility and not theirs. They also provide hand wipes and bottles of gel. But, I digress.

Low Price Concept2 Model D Indoor Rowing Machine

Looking for a low impact exercise machine to complement free weights, so we researched rowers. The nice thing about a rower is that you make your workout what you need; long and steady strokes or intense quick strokes. It doesn't cause excessive wear and tear on my joints, especially in the knees, which is important to me.

We looked at several types of rowers, read the pro's and con's about each, and Concept 2 was always mentioned as top of the line. An added advantage was they have two of these machines in the gym I used to go to, so was familiar with their use. Ordered the rower from Amazon, painless like everything else I've bought from them. Had it up and running in 30 minutes from the time I started opening the box, so it was really quite simple.

My personal pro's and con's...

Pro's- easy to set up, very easy to manipulate the workout monitor (we purchased the D version which doesn't have the heart rate function), solidly built, quiet enough to watch TV while using, provides an excellent workout for whatever you're game for.

Con's- really nothing. You get what you pay for, so although it was an initial chunk of change to plunk down, it should last a long time!

I've now used the mini-stepper for a handful of times and so far it performs as I expected it to. It's great for a good, quick workout in front of the TV. My only complaint is that the pedals do touch down to the base once the stepper is warmed up (consequently creating a small stepping noise), but it doesn't impact the functionality of the unit. The first time I used it, it took a little while to get used to balancing on the unit, but it was easy enough. Being that I am doing a lot more book reading these days, and need to read at every opportunity, I turned to Google to look for a book holder-opener to use when I am on the treadmill (having misplaced the other doodad I was using). The first product to pop up was the a cool little book holder called the FlipKlip. The FlipKlip is manufactured by BlueZap in beautiful C'oeur d'Alene, Idaho. The owner of the company is Bob Begin, also known as Mr. Wizard.

The premise behind the FlipKlip is to keep a book open when you are engaged in activities where two hands are not necessarily available - such as knitting, typing, cooking and exercising. Eureka - the treadmill - perfect!

Stamina 55-2065 Dual Action Elite Programmable Elliptical / Stepper Best Quality

You will most likely need 2 people to put this together. Or 1 mechanically inclined person. I did it alone but it was a struggle, I was too tired to use it when I was finished.

It is a nice solid machine, with good programmable options, espically for the price. It is a little less smooth turning than I'd like, so it has a little more of a walking/running feel than the expensive ellipticals you use at the gym, but the important part was to lessen the impact on the knees which this machine does effectively.
